PATTAYA – MYSTERY WOMAN GIVES BIRTH IN THE RAIN – CRIES FOR HELP IGNORED

On the 12th May a distressed Thai woman holding her new born baby cried for help outside the Sattahip police station from 2:00 in the morning.

Police on duty ignored her, believing her cries to be emanating from a nearby spirit house. Mother and baby were eventually discovered at 7:00 am and after several hours of persuasion, mother reluctantly agreed to release the new born to the care of the rescue team for treatment at hospital. 

Sergeant Dumnern Insawat, the Sattahip police duty officer, said he was on duty during the night and the weather was bad with heavy rain, thunder and lightning. He heard the sound of a woman crying in front of the police station but he didn’t check it out because the sound actually came from the direction of a famous spirit house nearby.

It wasn’t until 7:00 am in the morning that a woman was discovered sitting on the ground outside the station holding on tightly to her newborn child. The mother looked distraught and exhausted and the baby appeared weak and obviously required medical attention.

Police provided a cloth to cover the baby and a rescue team from Sattahip was immediately summoned. On arrival they, in turn, requested the assistance of an ambulance and medical team from the Sirikit hospital. Meanwhile the mother had refused to hand over her child, and continued to hold on to the baby tightly.

After 4 hours trying to convince her to release the baby, officials eventually used force to make her let go. Mother and baby were both taken to hospital for treatment where doctors stated that both mother and baby would survive.

Witnesses told our reporter that the mystery woman had been around the area of the police station about 2 days before. She had also been seen walking about in the market and sometimes slept on the street.
